Nacreous

nacreous: of or resembling mother-of-pearl

Isn't this pretty? I mean, everyone has seen shiny pearl stuff like this before, but has anyone ever seen it so green? I always thought of mother-of-pearl was purplish and swirly. I don't know. I just love this color!

I can't really think of any good prompts...but here's one that *might* be okay.

Oysters aren't all that glamorous on the outside, but on the inside, they can look like this. What else has a boring exterior, but is just bursting with [character? beauty?] on the inside?
(Yes, I know it's really lame. I told you it *might* be okay...)

Floatant

floatant: agent causing flotation

Today has been an awesome day. I got a free balloon! As an *almost* high schooler, that's a pretty amazing thing. Plus, I'm getting to bake home made marshmallows! Yay! Aren't balloons just spirit-lifting? Whenever I see one, it just makes me smile (like this :D). Since seeing Up (which, by the way, is awesome), I've loved them even more!

*99 red balloons!

Prompt(s):
1. Why would these balloons have been let go? Dramatic effect? Symbolism? Pure accident?
2. What would it feel like to be one of these balloons, finally free? Would you enjoy it, or miss the safety of being on a string?

Herpetoid

herpetoid: of, like or pertaining to snakes

All right. All you Indiana Jones fans out there, this one's dedicated to you! A DYK (did you know) moment! DYK that in the movie Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, (the part where he lands in the snake pit and is face to face with the cobra --->) you can see the reflection of the glass that separates Indie from the cobra? It was pointed out to me after like, my millionth time watching it, and I'd never noticed it till now! Anywho, I just thought I would share that!

And now, for the prompts (yes! as in two, well, not really, they're kind of related...)
1. If you were the snake, the leader of the clan (if you will), and a strange creature fell into your home, killed some of your clan, and was now face to face with you, what would you be thinking? How would you react?
2(ish). If you were a fearless adventurer, well, fearless except for one fear, what would it be? Would it be snakes? Spiders? The sun? Why? Give a back story...

Baccate

baccate: having berries; berry-like

Am I the only one who loves Summer for its desserts? I mean, come on. Blackberry cobbler with vanilla icecream? Grandma's apple pie? All of those fruits that are amazingly ripe during the Summer? Makes me wish that it wasn't just during then (instead of now, in the dead of winter, when all berries are incredibly overpriced). Oh well.

Prompt: What is your favorite *childhood* memory of summer? dessert? spending time with family? (yes, yes, i know it's one of those "dime a dozen" prompts, but hey, it fits with the picture!)

PS: I'm sorry I haven't kept on schedule with these posts! I'll try to do better (hopefully)...

Auriphrygia

auriphrygia: gold embroidery

Isn't this so pretty? What if someone was wearing a dress that was covered in embroidery like this? I think it would be really heavy! But, there would be *practically* a halo around it from all of the light bouncing off it!

I'm really sorry that I don't have a prompt today. I have to study for exams (which are next week!!)

Rubiginous

rubiginous: rusty-colored

Doesn't this picture just look so cool? Apparently, it's the side of an old truck that has been left outside for about 20 years. I think it has a certain beauty lying beneath the outer shell of disrepair. Especially the orangey-red of the rust. It contrasts with the little splotches of blue (left over from the paint?).

And now, to the prompt (btw, there won't always be a prompt, I just enjoy putting them up). Today, it's going to be more of a personification prompt. What did this truck feel like as a new, lovely car? Was it a present, or maybe bought for work? Did its new owner feel proud, or was it just for the operation of a farm, instead of a new "toy?" How old is this truck, what has it seen in its years?

Nymphean

nymphean (n.): of, like, or pertaining to a nymph

I've always enjoyed mythology, especially Greek and Roman. But nymphs (especially wood nymphs) are just awesome. I think it's cool how they sort of melt from the trees and just seem all mystical.

Prompt:

This wood nymph, what does she see? Is she magical, or just a someone who sees everything from the shadows? What about her race? Is she the last of her kind?

Xiphoid

xiphoid: sword shaped (thanks Phrontisery!)

Swords. They're pretty cool. It seems like almost every book I read has a "legendary" one in it. For example:

Zar'roc and Brisingr (from the Inheritance trilogy)

Anduril (from Lord of the Rings)

(and others....)

I wonder what it would be like to see a wine red sword, or one with as much history as Anduril. Oh well, I guess I'll never find out (unless Inkheart is real). And now, for the prompt!

Describe the scene around this sword. Why was it abandoned there? Was there a big, decisive battle before it was left leaning on a rock? Does it have special abilities? What is the history behind its name (you'll have to come up with that too, if you wish to)?

Iridize

Iridize (v.)
(Maybe you'll guess this one right! I mean, it is sort of obvious)

......

Iridize (v.): to make iridescent

I really chose that word because I was just hanging out in my room and looking at this peacock ornament I got from Pier 1 Imports. I thought that it was so cool because there was an actual tail feather on it (btw, I've always loved peacock feathers, they're so SHINY!). So, I went to the Phrontisery and saw if they had anything with iridescent (because quetzals are also SHINY, just not as much). I wonder what it would be like to see a peacock in real life...

Today, I have two pictures. One is that one (see above), and one is this one (see below). This one is apparently the offspring of a white (not albino) peacock and a "normal" one. I think it's pretty cool.

I have a "sorta prompt" today. It goes something like this:

What would it be like to be half and half? To be partly shunned, part not? Half human, half bird? (I don't know, just take it wherever you want to). Just try to incorporate halves/wholes (again, whatever you want, if you don't like my ideas).

Cinnabar

cinnabar (it's a color, can you guess what it is?)

......

Have you guessed? It's red crystalline mercuric sulfide pigment (deep red or scarlet color). I didn't get it right. I believed it was a cinnamon color (like, well, cinnamon!). Oh well...thanks Phrontisery! Don't those cinnabar (the compoundish thing) beads look amazing? I would love to own a strand of them... They're so detailed!

So now, here's the *optional* writing prompt (for those of you coffee shop open mic goers). Where would you find these? In a royal jewelry box? Hidden away beneath the floorboards of a barn (ooh, wouldn't that make a cool story...). You decide.

beginnings, beginnings...

Hello! Seeing as this is my first post on this blog, I suppose I'll explain what I plan to (not necessarily will) do. I think I'd like this to just be random information that I want to share with people. It may be a word, such as stiricide (n.:falling of icicles from a house), or a prompt that people can use to get started writing. I don't know! Just wait and find out :).

PS: The picture has nothing to do with this post. I just like quetzals.
